If you’ve ever wanted to brew your own beer right in your very own home and pour it straight from the tap, consider a keg cooler that doubles as a keg fridge. These products are sold by brands like Great Northern, Sanyo, Keggermeister, Kegco, Krups and Heineken, as well as Nostalgia as kegerators – a portmanteau word of “keg” and “refrigerator”.

Price Of This Great Keg Cooler
I spent some time reading kegerator reviews under $1,000 online, until I found the Sanyo BC1206 kegerator. It looked like a good candidate for what my fiancé wanted. Also, price was a big concern for me, and I didn’t want to spend more than $1,000 for a kegerator on sale, and this one cost under $700 on Amazon – more expensive than kegerators by Haier, Great Northern, Nostalgia, Edge Star and some others, but I figured there were some good reasons behind this.
Anticipated Problems With A Cheap Keg Fridge
As I went through some Amazon reviews, I noticed that just about every reviewer complained about receiving their best price kegerator with some sort of damage. It looked like many were complaining about their kegerator reaching their residence with a crack here or a dent there, or dings or scratches here and there, and I think I remember a couple of reviewers saying that a new kegerator had to be reshipped to them because the first one was so horribly damaged. I figured I’d take the risk. True enough, when I received the kegerator, it had scratches in the back, and dings in 3 different places. Luckily, I purchased the kegerator weeks before my fiance’s birthday, so there was enough time to request a replacement. When it arrived, I only noticed a small dent on the back, and a small scratch on the door. I figured there was simply no such thing as getting a blemish-free kegerator when it is shipped via UPS, and considering the bad luck of others with their kegerator, I felt like I won the lotto.
Pros of This Great Home Kegerator
Apart from the dent and scratch, the Sanyo BC1206 Kegerator in fact proved to be the answer to all of my fiance’s “kegerating” needs. It was easy to put together based on the instructions, and the kegerator really turned out to be efficient in keeping the beer very cold, saving him from all the hassle of bottling his brews. It’s also able to hold kegs of varying designs, like the Budweiser keg we had for one party. Not all kegerators are able to do this. A lot of my fiance’s friends were so impressed by the Sanyo BC1206 Kegerator that they wished they didn’t spend over $2,000 on their kegerators.
Cons Of The Cheap Kegerator
All in all, my fiancé has been very happy with the Sanyo BC1206 Kegerator, with the exception of 2 things: the inefficient drip pan, and the slightly misaligned screw holes. We figured these are pretty minor, and would still recommend the Sanyo BC1206 Kegerator to anyone that wants a kegerator under $1,000.
