Many of us have been pulled over one too many times for over speeding, and those that over speed are often caught by policemen that use a radar gun. This is done to ensure the safety of drivers on roads, as they drive their vehicles. If you have a tendency to drive fast and have been pulled over and given a ticket that has cost you hundreds of dollars for speeding, then you may want to look into getting a radar detector. Check out this article for choosing the best radar detector is if you want to not get any more speeding tickets but knowing how they work also helps or go here to see our radar detector review.
How do Radar Detectors work?
Radar Guns
The radar guns that law enforcers use send out radio waves. They do this by pointing the gun in the direction of a vehicle and pulling the trigger or button on the radar gun. This gun then returns the information as to the speed at which the specific vehicle was going. Radars are able to analyze the distance of an object, and this will depend on the amount of time before the radio signal serves the result, since radio waves are able to travel at the speed of light. However, because vehicles are in motion, the radio waves alter in frequency, and radars are able to sense this. When this happens, the change is changed into mph, to figure out the speed at which the target was going. An array of band types is used by radio bands for acquiring the speed of vehicles, among which are the Ka band, K band, as well as X band. Classic radar detectors function by letting drivers know if there are any radar guns in the area.
Laser Radar guns
One type of radar gun is the laser radar gun, and laser works to detect the rate at which a vehicle is going using infrared, which transmits and returns the data. In this process, the speed of light is multiplied by the time it takes before the data is retrieved and returned. Samples are measured based on many distances acquired by the radar gun. Laser radar guns are considered to be very efficient , and so not all radar detectors are able to dodge them. A lot of radar detectors in this day and age have panels that are sensitive to light, and these sense the light beams, but laser is often quick to detect.
Radar Detectors
More modern radar detectors are more efficient in that they send out a signal that works to block the functioning of radar guns. The signal that is emitted by the radar gun is replicated by the radar detector, and then combines it with extra radio noise. This then leaves the receiver of the radar gun confused, so a law enforcer in effect will not be able to get a precise reading of how fast a vehicle with a radar detector is going.
